Prosvjednici su na megafon vikali “Low pay, no way” (Niske plaće – nema šanse), “Shame on you, Wolt!”

On Thursday, July 17, Wolt delivery workers gathered in front of the Zagreb Velesajam. At around 11 a.m., they headed toward Wolt’s headquarters in Vrbani.
This is the first protest in which domestic and foreign workers have joined forces, although Wolt has mobilized its forces to block the protest. Namely, the workers have been threatened not to join the strike that the delivery workers themselves organized about ten days ago or they will be fired, and to leave the WhatsApp group in which the strike was being discussed.
They also received a notification from WOLT that they must complete the hygiene and technical minimum by July 30, which can only be done on Thursdays, and the only free date until the deadline was precisely the day the protest took place.
The reason for the protest is primarily the very difficult economic situation of delivery workers – the already low prices of delivery fees are now even lower, and they are not transparent, that is, it is not known how they are determined. Wolt claims to be transparent because the price is written with each delivery, but it is not known how the price was calculated, which means that it can be different each time.
In addition, the exploitation of foreign workers is a big problem. They are overloaded with work, and they are existentially blackmailed and have no choice but to bow their heads. The employer provides them with the means to work, but deducts from their salary the rent of a room, bicycle, moped, scooter, delivery bag, etc., so in the end they are left with 400-500 euros per month to live on, even though they work 12 hours a day.
Most of them came to earn something to send to their families, and before that they need to pay back the money they borrowed to be able to come to Croatia.
Around seventy delivery workers gathered in front of Wolt’s headquarters. Protesters shouted into megaphones “Low pay, no way”, “Shame on you, Wolt!” and “Management, go away!”. Then, representatives of the Novi sindikat tried to go to inside building to meet with the management of Wolt.
They entered the building, however, the security guards told them that no one from the Management was there today. They were offered an appointment the next day, Friday, but the protesters refused.
The protesters therefore announced further actions, especially towards the Ministry of Labor and the Government of the Republic of Croatia, with the aim of enabling collective bargaining for better working conditions with those who make decisions, i.e. with the platform, through amendments to the law.
The second demand is an increase in the price of delivery fees and an increase in the price of starting a ride, and transparency in making decisions about these prices.
