Novi Sindikat is a general-type labor union
that organizes workers in all sectors and
industries throughout Croatia.

What is CCC

Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) is a global network founded in 1989 in the Netherlands, which today consists of more than 240 associations, trade unions, and activist groups in both production and consumer countries.

Focus

The focus of the Clean Clothes Campaign is on working conditions in some of the lowest-paid industries (textiles, clothing, and footwear) in countries where production is most intensive. These are the so-called third world countries, developing countries, most of which are located in Asia, but also in Europe (Bulgaria, Moldova, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina).

Goal

By supporting workers who work in the most difficult conditions and earn the lowest wages, the Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) seeks to raise standards for all workers and prevent the global trend of relocating factories from countries where workers are poorly paid to countries where labour standards are even lower. This practice is used by fashion brands, i.e. companies that order goods from manufacturing countries, to maximise their profits.

Action

The Clean Clothes Campaign operates through awareness campaigns in consumer countries. In this way, it seeks to put pressure on global fashion brands (such as Zara or Bershka) to improve working conditions and increase wages in their production chains.

To ensure that workers’ fundamental rights are respected, the CCC launches campaigns to inform and mobilize consumers, lobbies companies and governments at regional and national levels to bring about changes in legislation, organizes education with workers, as well as actions on the ground, such as protests in front of fashion brand stores.

Trade unions and workers

The CCC seeks to actively involve trade unions operating in factories where problems arise. The CCC provides direct support to workers facing specific problems, such as restrictions on freedom of association or non-payment of wages, through the Urgent Appeal system.

Requirements

The Clean Clothes Campaign advocates freedom of association, a living wage, protection of health and safety at work, the right to access the courts and fair judicial protection, and a just transition in the textile industry.
