Next week, alongside colleagues from the Regional Industrial Union (RIS), we will participate in a panel discussion in Varaždin regarding the state of our textile industry.
For more than a century, the textile industry has been one of the most important industrial sectors in northwestern Croatia. Although the industry is often discussed in the context of the post-socialist transition—and indeed, many companies have ceased operations—it still employs thousands of workers today. This highly skilled workforce remains attractive to foreign brands that have opened production facilities across Croatia over the last 30 years.
However, while the importance and quality of the textile industry are frequently praised in public, there is one crucial aspect we know very little about: what are the actual working conditions for those who enter these plants every day?
To address this, we have researched what the Croatian textile industry truly looks like today: how much it earns, how many female workers it employs, the conditions they face, and the potential opportunities for improvement.
Panel Speakers:
1) Dunja Kučinac and Ivana Perić (Journalists and Researchers))
2) Jakov Kolak (Regional Industrial Union – RIS)
3) Mario Iveković (Novi Sindikat)
Join us on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at J. Habdelića 6, Varaždin, in the Ljilja Hall (Park Boutique Hotel). See you there!
