Employees of the student cafeteria in Zadar have been on strike for almost two weeks, dissatisfied with the rejection of their request to the Student Standard Agency for a new collective agreement. Today, Member of Parliament Miro Bulj expressed his support for the strikers.
“In this COVID crisis, we need to talk about people and their workers’ rights. The workers in the Zadar cafeteria are part of the education system, and no one has the right to ignore them or push them to the margins. As a Member of Parliament, I will do everything to ensure they realize their union and labor rights, and not let them be trampled on during this pandemic. Obviously, we have forgotten the social component,” said Bulj, an MP from the Most party, at today’s conference aimed at drawing attention to the strike. He added that they would also seek answers from the relevant ministry.
The same number of kitchen staff is still on strike, with the exception of the head chef and the shift leader. As they say, they do not intend to stop or give up.
“We have stopped negotiating. In principle, some things were relaxed and agreed upon, but the most basic and important issue remains—they do not want to give us systematization, specifically the number of points. I won’t say anyone is guilty, but Rector Vican personally told us she would never sign that for us,” said Union commissioner Matijević. She emphasized that the strike is not “against the children” (the students), even though they may feel the greatest impact.
