At today’s press conference, Novi sindikat announced a protest by both domestic and foreign delivery workers operating for Wolt, which will take place tomorrow, July 17, 2025. The speakers at the conference included union members Mladen Brajak and Nader Wahech, alongside the General Secretary of Novi sindikat, Tomislav Kiš.
The primary reason for this protest is the increasingly difficult economic situation of the delivery workers. Fees that were already low have fallen even further and lack any transparency, meaning it is impossible to determine how they are calculated. While Wolt claims to be transparent because a price is displayed for each delivery, the underlying logic remains unknown, which allows the fees to fluctuate inconsistently.
Furthermore, the exploitation of foreign workers has become a critical problem. These workers are often overworked and face existential blackmail, leaving them with no choice but to accept unfair conditions. For this reason, Novi sindikat has already requested meetings with the Ministry of Labour and the Government of the Republic of Croatia. We will reiterate our demands for collective bargaining with the digital platforms to secure better working conditions for everyone.
We also demand a significant increase in shipping fees and start-up prices, as well as full transparency in how these prices are decided.
The protest rally will begin at 10 a.m. at the Zagreb Fair, specifically the parking lot on the east side behind the INA building. At 11 a.m., protesters will move in a column toward the protest location following a route along Avenue Dubrovnik to the west, through the Rotor, and across Selska and Horvaćanska streets. The final destination is the Wolt headquarters at Kuzminečka 10a.
It is important to note that this is the first protest to bring together both domestic and foreign delivery workers, even though Wolt has used various tactics to block the action. Workers have reported receiving threats of termination if they joined previous strikes and were pressured to leave the WhatsApp groups where the actions were organized. Additionally, Wolt issued a notice requiring workers to complete a mandatory hygiene and technical certification by July 30. This training can only be performed on Thursdays, and the only available date before the deadline happens to be tomorrow, the exact day of the protest.
All of these factors demonstrate why it is essential to stand together and support the workers. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow at 10 o’clock.
