At the meeting held in the Cabinet of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Davor Božinović, an exit strategy related to the status of workers who participated in the humanitarian demining process of the Republic of Croatia was discussed. The Ministry supported the Novi sindikat initiative, which calls for the removal of the 8-year service requirement to qualify for a pension under the special law. This request addresses the situation of 22 registered employees who, due to the successful completion of demining activities, are now unable to reach the 8-year mark. The Ministry of the Interior has committed to coordinating with other relevant ministries to prepare the necessary legal amendments.
Additionally, discussions covered employment opportunities for workers who lost their jobs as demining concluded. Our proposals to employ them within Civil Protection or a potential Ranger Service were considered. The Minister also shared initiatives from Mine Action Employers, stating the Government is ready to offer support provided that priority is given to mine action workers who have not yet met the special pension requirements. Novi sindikat expressed a firm position: while seeking Government assistance for employment and pensions, we do not accept any aid conditioned by mandatory employment with companies continuing demining operations outside of Croatia.
