Workers and students of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb sent a letter of support to the workers of the student canteen of the University of Zadar in their fight for a collective agreement.

Dear Sir/Madam,
For more than 25 days, the University of Zadar canteen workers have been on strike for a basic labor right – the right to negotiate the base salary and the value of points for calculating salaries through a collective agreement. The demand for the salary to be defined in a collective agreement is opposed by their employer, the Agency for Student Standard. The Agency is a private company; its founder is the public institution, the University of Zadar, and the founder is represented in the Governing Board by the Rector of the University of Zadar.
We, the undersigned workers and students of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, support the striking workers and call on them not to give up in the fight for their rights. We support the strikers’ demand that the workers’ salaries be agreed upon in a collective agreement. We advocate that the process of negotiating that agreement be a real agreement and dialogue, and not a unilateral dictate.
As members of the academic community, we call on workers and students of the University of Zadar to act in solidarity and encourage their rector to engage in dialogue about a collective agreement and to protect workers’ rights in the company founded by their University.
