TEXTILE BRANDS WITHOUT LIABILITY:
After 25 years of business, the Italian textile giant Benetton is completely withdrawing from Osijek, leaving more than 250 female workers without jobs.
Why are textile brands leaving Croatia? What are their responsibilities toward their workers? What is the role of the Croatian state and local authorities in this situation? What can be achieved through international campaigns and the networking of textile workers? What is the future of the textile industry in Croatia?
To address these and other pressing issues, we are organizing a panel titled: “Textile Brands Without Responsibility: What is the Future of Benetton in Croatia?”
The panel will feature: Mario Iveković (Novi sindikat) and Dunja Kučinac and Ivana Perić (Journalists and Researchers).
Mario Iveković will speak about the work and goals of the Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) network, which brings together textile workers, trade unionists, and organizations from all over the world. He will discuss past successes and challenges in Croatia, as well as future plans for action regarding the Benetton case.
Dunja Kučinac and Ivana Perić will present the findings of their research on working conditions in the Croatian textile industry, with a focus on the operations of foreign brands and their practices within the domestic textile sector.
Event Details:
The panel will be held at the social Atelier (Županijska ulica 11, Osijek) on Tuesday, 18. February at 6 p.m.
See you there!
